Driver Busted for Speeding While Using Two Phones

Talk about multi-tasking... A British driver took the entire use of cell phone while behind the wheel debate to a whole new level last week, after he got caught speeding at 110 km/h (68 mph) while using two cell phones, simultaneously. Hard thing to do, come to think of it...

According to BBC, the unnamed man was apprehended on the A47 at Blofield, near Norwich, after police saw him driving like mad and using two cell phones, one to talk and the other to text. The cherry on the cake, the driver also had no insurance.

Now facing what is expected to be a not-so-pleasant encounter with a judge, the driver argued that he was in control of his car while joggling with the two phones because his knees are very well trained in handling the steering wheel. The explanation obviously didn't stick, as he was fined 60 pounds and sent to appear in court.

“Talking on the phone while driving means that the driver is no longer paying enough attention to the road,” said a representative of the Norwich police department. “Using one phone is dumb enough, but using two is well passed that.”

If only the US Secretary of Transportation got wind of this... Classified, officially, as a plague in the US (even the Centers for Disease Control got involved in the anti-cell phone campaign), the use of cell phones while behind the wheel is far from being ended. For some reason, perhaps because of the lack of a federal piece of legislation telling them otherwise, Americans still consider using the phones while driving not to be dangerous. The Brits as well, it seems...
