Most of us think automobiles are just about going fast and having big engines, but they would be nothing without design. What engine does the Mercedes-Benz 300SL have? You probably don't know, but those amazing gull wing doors are etched into your memory.
We've recently stumbled upon a very interesting collection of digital illustrations that really tickled our creative / classic car bone. They're called "Drive Like a Gentleman" and were put together by Seventy Two, a graphics studio that clearly knows what it's doing.

Finished in a sort of classic cinema style, like the poster of a Hitchcock movie, these images speak about a world that seems so distant, so intangible. Just look at that second-gen Corvette, the Mini or the Beetle – it's like being back in the 60s!

The roads were empty and wide, the gas stations had mechanics and having good manners was something many people aspired to. We didn't have lane assist or pedestrian assist, just a set of eyes and our wits.

Yet the gentlemen drivers and their well designed cars haven't been completely obliterated. Mercedes may have dropped the gull wings when they made the AMG GT just because they wanted to make the car lighter, but BMW hasn't done the same with its i8 hybrid sportscar, which features beautiful butterfly doors. And while the new MINIs may not be as small, they are very fast, very technologically advanced and super-cool.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
