Ever since Porsche delivered the 992 incarnation of the 911 at the Los Angeles Auto Show last month, we've kept an eye on the new Neunelfer, delivering renderings of future derivatives and real-world sightings. Well, the time has come for the 2020 911 to show its might in the real world.
You see, for the new generation, Zuffenhausen has introduced extra tech that lets the car help the driver, from the sensor-activated Wet driving mode to a plethora of active safety systems.

And while that's all fine, many aficionados have something else on their minds - what about the drifting?

Well, the piece of footage at the bottom of the page delivers a sample of the 992 engaged in slip angle shenanigans. The footage, which comes from Top Gear South Africa, shows the Neunelfer doing the dance on the track, at respectable speed.

Note that we're looking at a Carrera 4S here, with the digital display on the left of the analog rev counter showing the car sending more power to the front axle as the back end steps out - it doesn't take all that much effort from the driver to provoke the car, so the rear-engined character is very much alive.

We must also mention the small-diameter steering wheel, which helps the one occupying the driver's seat position the machine throughout the drift.

The new eight-speed PDK can also be witnessed here, with the dual-clutch unit performing just the kind of uber-quick upshifts and downshifts we'd expect - make sure to turn up the volume, so you can listen to the revised 450 hp turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six at work.

Speaking of the Neunelfer's eight generation, we'll return with some spyshots of the upcoming Cabriolet later today. The open-top model is currently in its final testing stage and is set to make its debut in the first half of next year.
