When it comes to taking part in Nurburgring Touristenfahrten (Tourist Days) activities, there are plenty of unspoken rules. However, the fact that drifting is forbidden isn't one of them - due to the obvious dangers sliding can lead to, such activities are officially verboten on the Ring and drivers who ignore the rule can get a ban.
However, since telling the difference between an accidental slide and an intentional drift isn't always facile, there are plenty of Green Hell enthusiasts who get away with doing the tail-out shenanigans.
The latest example of this comes from the public session held yesterday, which saw the driver of a Mazda Miata deciding to slide his way through more than one corner.
The man was considerate enough to share his Nordschleife stunt with us via YouTube, which means we can get a taste of the sideways action.
However, we need to explain that it didn't take long for his gas pedal steering to bring trouble. That's right - the little Mazda ended up spinning, with this taking an E30 M3 driver by surprise.
Fortunately, the event didn't lead to any accident, which would've been the second crash of the day. In the first part of the video, you'll get to see the MX-5 passing a blue E36 M3 that had crashed and was stopped on the side of the track.
In fact, the Mazda driver even delivered a description for his track stint, one that may or may not fully show his driving intentions.
"Had a bit of a scary moment during yesterday's (30.08.2017) Touristenfahrten. The track was fully dry before Wippermann, hitting the curbs I noticed it was slippery and all of a sudden the track was completely wet. A guy in a BMW E36 M3 got surprised as well and hit the barrier," the Miata guy said.
