Drifting Around a Burning Christmas Tree Is as Ridiculous as It Sounds

"Drifting" and "Fire" are two extremely hot keywords in the automotive world and somebody figured they could introduce a third since it's the holiday season, adding the Christmas tree to the mix. Oh dear, this doesn't sound right.

Well, it doesn't sound right because... it isn't. The team that put the adjacent clip together took a Silvia drift car out and had their way around a Christmas tree. That sounds like the kind of thing we'd like to do during the cold season, but the problem is they didn't stop there. Alas, they decided setting the tree on fire would somehow make this clip cooler.

Still, there would have been much better ways of improving the wow factor of the video. For one thing, they could've found a stretch of dry tarmac. While drifting in the wet is still good fun, the lack of smoke and the more accessible maneuvers obviously make the show less enticing.

Perhaps the classic drift battle, but played around the tree, would've been a smoother way to spice things up.

The car they used for the stunt

The car featured here is a Nissan Silvia S13, a well-know hero of the sideways world. However, this is motivated by a Toyota powerplant, namely a 1JZ unit. We have to give the production crew credit for choosing a proper slip angle tool.

Oh and the soundtrack is nice, since it manages to mix the music, Brenda Lee's Rocking Around The Christmas Tree, with the voice of that 1JZ being put to work (blow-off valve accents included).
