Drew Barrymore left her yoga class in Los Angeles on Thursday only to find herself stopped by a police officer for crossing on the wrong place of the street. Even though it was right on Thanksgiving Day, it would seem the Blended actress didn’t mind her little encounter with the law.
We’re used to seeing Hollywood celebrities getting parking tickets or sometimes even getting arrested for speeding, but this time it was not about that. The 39-year old mother of two seemed quite relaxed as the police officer was explaining the actress what are the laws on crossing the street in US. The Charlie’s Angels star chatted to the man on duty after the incident as she calmly received her jaywalking ticket.

Photogs later saw her leaving a building while waving her arms jubilantly in the air, before seemingly being distracted by a topless man nearby, so it didn’t seem the little incident ruined her day, as some would expect.

In the US, jaywalking is considered an infraction, but in some jurisdictions it can get quite serious. In some places it is a misdemeanor or a class A felony and may require a court appearance. However, in some cities such as New York City or Chicago, although prohibited, “jaywalking” behaviour has been so commonplace that police generally cite or detain jaywalkers only if their behaviour is considered excessively dangerous or disruptive.

For instance, running out in front of a moving vehicle or crossing after the light is about to change to allow cross traffic to proceed might be considered as risky. Penalties for jaywalking vary by state and, within a state, may differ by county or municipality, but records show they range from $1 to $1,000.
