Drag Race: Tesla Model X vs. Model S P90D, Wife vs. Husband

This family took delivery of the Model X P90D at the beginning of February. Obviously, the kids loved the falcon doors and the Ludicrous launches, but they just wouldn't stop asking if it's faster than their existing Tesla Model S sedan. There's only one way to settle this dispute, and that's with an excellent zero-gas drag race.

We've been waiting to see this one ever since Tesla first announced the Model X many years ago. After owning the Model S for several months and scaring all his friends and neighbors with it, this guy was not afraid to place a huge deposit on the Founders Edition of the electric crossover. And to justify purchasing the second Tesla, he gave it to his wife.

Obviously, the Model X is at a huge disadvantage against its sedan counterpart. This is the first time the Misses has ever raced down the drag strip. While the Model X is easy to drive, getting the perfect launch is tricky. Also, it's quite a heavy car with all the bells and whistles that it has, including a huge moonroof.

The Model X is slower than the Model S. So what? By finishing the quarter-mile race within 0.19 of a second behind the sedan, this particular P90D with Ludicrous is probably the fastest crossover or SUV in the world, comfortably outpacing the BMW X5M or Mercedes-AMG GLE 63S. Heck, it could probably keep up with a Lamborghini Aventador!

You've got to hand it to these early Model X adopters. Without families like this one, the Model S probably wouldn't have been the best-selling large luxury car in the United States in 2015.

For the record, this particular Model X has a 7-seat configuration, yet it managed to clock 0 to 60 mph in 3.18 seconds. And for all of you who keep saying that EVs stop being fast after they hit 60, know that the crossover takes less than 8 seconds to reach 100 mph.

Editor's note: We're willing to bet that their kids will have a Model 3 as their first car when they get their license. Meet the Jetsons!
