Drag Race: BMW E93 M3 Convertible vs Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG

Today we’re bringing you a rather interesting drag race between two cars that belong to eternal enemies: BMW and Mercedes-Benz. We’ve seen how tuned cars deal with each other earlier, when an M6 took on a CLS63 AMG but how about some stock models?

Let’s face it, not everyone goes for AMG or M cars and the people that do are mostly keeping them stock as any added performance would probably be wasted. So why tune cars that are already making more power than they need?

Therefore, a race like the one we’re about to show is more probable to happen and it was done in proper fashion, thanks to the guys from Auto Express that took care of business.

The contenders

At the starting line came up two completely different cars. One of them is a hatchback while the other is a convertible. Even so, the guys thought it would be a good idea to pit them against each other just for fun.

On the one hand we have the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, an ultra hot-hatch with 360 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque coming from a turbocharged 2-liter engine. It’s also all-wheel drive so a standing start should be more than welcome.

On the other hand, we have a BMW E93 M3 that uses a naturally aspirated 4-liter V8 making 420 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. Not only it has less torque but the M3 is also rear-wheel drive and weighs around 400 kg (881 lbs) more than the hatch. Could the 60 extra horses make up for it? Let’s see...
