Drag Race: BMW Alpina B6 Gran Coupe vs 2015 Corvette Stingray Convertible

This has to be the drag race with the longest name in history. To write the complete names of the two cars going head to head here we should say BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe Biturbo versus 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible. Now that’s pretty long, even by our standards.

Even though it seems unreal, the guys from The Fast Lane Car actually got the two together for one epic 1 mile high drag race. Who do you think won? Well, let’s take a look at the specs, shall we?

The BMW Alpina B6 Gran Coupe is based on the Bavarians’ 650i Gran Coupe that uses a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 making 450 HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. However, after going through the Alpina treatment, the B6 is now capable of making 540 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, numbers close to the ones of the M6 Gran Coupe.

However, this thing is faster than the M model because it comes fitted with the xDrive all-wheel drive system. That means the 1.9 ton car will do 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in just 3.9 seconds. That’s supercar territory for a four seater!

On the other hand, we have the American, a Chevy Corvette Convertible with the brand new 8-speed automatic GM has been working on. This is a proper sports car with a 6.2-liter V8 under the bonnet making 450 HP and 610 Nm (450 lb-ft) of torque. At the same time, the ‘Vette is also lighter on its feet but it is rear-wheel drive and a quoted time of 4 seconds to 62 mph (100 km/h).

So, we have a twin-turbo luxury, all-wheel drive sedan going up against a rear-wheel drive naturally aspirated sports car at 1 mile above the sea level. Who will win?
