The quarter-mile is the yardstick by which all modern cars are measured, that and the 100 km/h sprint, of course. Both are taken into consideration when comparing these competent German machines, the new Audi RS5 Coupe, Mercedes-AMG E63 S and BMW retired M5 30th Anniversary Edition.
The RS5 is obviously the underdog here, coming from a class below the other two. But Mat Watson from Carwow and Paul Wallace from SoL wanted to prove that it's a drag racing bargain.

Even though it's got a 450 horsepower V6 engine compared to the 600 HP of the BMW M5, it pulls ahead noticeably. But you kind of expected that just by looking at the specs, as the AWD of the Audi launches it to 100 km/h about 0.4 of a second faster.

The new M5, which will be available in a few months, and that will come with an M xDrive system. We suspect the drag race with the E63 S will be one of the closest we've ever seen. But for now, the Bavarian car is best enjoyed sideways, not in a straight line.

Of course, we already knew the RS5 was going to be faster than the M5. We saw how the Audi beat an M4, which in turn beat the 30 Jahre and the M6 Competiton Pack. Put two and two together and there you have a clear picture.

Of course, things work a little different in the rolling race, which has become a Carwow tradition. The traction advantage of the Audi gets canceled out, leaving the 600 HP M5 to battle it out with the 612 HP Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

If you own an F10 M5 and this video made you want to upgrade, know that the UK price list has already been released. The all-new generation will set you back £87,160 in Britain while an E63 S begins at £88,295.
