The two cars you’re about to see shouldn’t really be forced to race against each other. They are not in the same segment, are not rivals in any way but only share on small detail: they can carry four people around very fast.
Furthermore, as the guys from Evo will tell you, they are both priced under GBP60,000 in the UK. Looking at the prices in other countries, you’ll find a different story however. For example, the M3 is more than $10,000 cheaper in the US than the Macan Turbo.

So, how will the two fair in a straight-up drag race? Well, there are no surprises here, no matter what some might claim and no matter how impressive the Porsche DNA is, you just can’t break the laws of physics thanks to good reputation.

As we expected, the Porsche was faster off the line thanks to its all-wheel drive transmission and automatic transmission. That’s where drag and weight don’t really matter that much. However, down the road, the extra weight and the less aerodynamic profile of the Porsche started making themselves noticeable.

The Macan Turbo uses a 3.6-liter turbocharged engine making 400 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque, an identical amount compared to the M3. However, the Bimmer has a 3-liter engine that has two turbochargers and 31 hp more. On top of that, it’s also around 300 kg (661 lbs) lighter.

Sure, the BMW has less traction off the line due to its rear-wheel drive setup and the driver has to be a bit more careful with the throttle a bit after taking off but then... All hell breaks loose and the Porsche doesn’t stand a chance. Check it out!
