Download and 3D-Print Your Own BMW Vision M NEXT in Any Size You Want, For Free

Earlier this week, BMW gave us a glimpse of the future and a nod to the past by showing the incredible Vision M NEXT concept. A car that, for all intents and purposes, we’ll never get to see on the road in production form. But nothing is stopping us from printing our own.

In a move that is unprecedented in the history of the auto industry, BMW is making public the full data set that allows a 3D printer to weave the car from scratch.

To celebrate the introduction of the concept, BMW set up a special webpage from where fans can download wallpapers, posters and even sound files of the car. But there’s also the 3D print data set we told you about.

The download is free of charge, and BMW does not limit the scale of the resulting car. Depending on the size of the 3D printer you own, you could sculpt a full-scale Vision M NEXT, or even bigger.

Of course, the car would be just an empty shell, with no powertrain underneath. The real concept uses a powertrain combination that comprises a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric system, but BMW will not give away the data for those.

There’s also going to be a lot of work involved in painting the mockup, but in the end it should be worth it.

So why is BMW doing this? Because it can, of course, and puts the carmaker in the unique position of probably having started a trend.

“Provision of the BMW Vision M Next 3D data set free of charge on the day of the world premiere is a form of communication with the worldwide BMW community that is unique in the automotive industry to date – once again confirming BMW as a pioneer in the use of innovative technology, in this case in the area of marketing.” said BMW.

You can find the downloadable M Next data at this link.
