Ever wondered what determines certain aficionados to pay $300,000 for a 997-generation Porsche 911 Speedster? While some of you might already know the answer, getting into its details is always a pleasure. So here we are, bringing you Doug DeMuro's take on the Zuffenhausen toy.
The journo recently got up close and personal with a 2011 incarnation of the Speedster, one that also happens to be up front grabs, as you'll find out in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page.

Doug also gets behind the wheel of this uber-rare Neunelfer (only 356 were brought to life), so you'll also be able to enjoy a few driving impressions.

Of course, a special part of the video is dedicated to the soft top of the machine, which, unlike in the case of the 997 Cabriolet, is manually operated.

Of course, all this 911 Speedster means we must also mention the upcoming 2019 incarnation of the Neunelfer. The 991.2 model is set to make its debut this fall, arriving as the swansong of this generation - the 992 next-gen model will also arrive by the end of the year, remember?

We've spied the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster on multiple occasions, while the carmaker has shown us what to expect from the model via a splendid concept car.

Unlike in the case of the 997 Doug talks about, which is based on the GTS, the newcomer uses the 911 GT3 as a starting point. So yes, you'll get to enjoy at least 500 naturally aspirated horses and probably a six-speed manual. Note that the previous model only came in PDK form.

The rumor mill also talks about Porsche offering a 911 GT3 Cabriolet as a Speedster for the "masses". However, the chances of this forbidden fruit (Porsche never mixed the GT3 and the Cabriolet badges before) coming to life are limited, so we'd take this with a grain of salt.
