Doug Danger Is Getting Ready to Surpass Evel Knievel and Jump 22 Cars

Doug Danger has not given up on his dream of succeeding where the greatest daredevil of all times, his friend Evel Knievel, failed. We reported that Doug Danger had been planning this jump for some time now, and this year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was chosen as the perfect background.

On August 6th, at 5:30 pm, Doug Danger will ride Knievel's 1972 Harley-Davidson XR-750 up the ramp, taking his shot at stunt riding glory. Evel Knievel's Harley is in stock trim, meaning it received no modifications to improve performance, and this makes everything even more dangerous.

Back in 1972, Knievel's crew warned him that the bike could not build up enough speed to clear the jump, and unfortunately, they've been right. Knievel only managed to clear 21 of them. As a safety precaution, a ramp had been installed over the last three cars. Knievel bounce-landed on the ramp, unable to reach the desired distance. Other riders attempted this jump and failed, too.

I do have a death wish, I want to die when I'm 100 years old

Asked whether he has a death wish and if it involves the jump, Doug Danger says: "I do have a death wish, I want to die when I'm 100 years old, I want to be laying in bed next to my wife, have my last ice cold beer, suck it down, close my eyes, put my head on the pillow and never wake up. This jump is not my death wish, we're going to pull this one off, and it's going to be one of the greatest jumps in history."

"I really believe the spirit of Evel Knievel is flying with me, I really believe that he's here and I think he's pretty proud. Death has had me by the throat twice in my life, and I spit in its face. When God's ready, he'll take me," he adds in a confident voice.

The only modification made to the old H-D is a repositioned foot peg that had to be relocated to accommodate Doug Danger's height. Doug also made a single test run ahead of the Thursday August 6th historic attempt.

Doug Danger will attempt to jump over a 22-car line in the middle of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip amphitheater. If you are attending the Sturgis Rally and want to witness this record-breaking attempt, you can already get tickets in advance, as they are only $10 (€9).
