Donkervoort Unveils D8 GTO-RS, Half of Production Is Already Reserved

Donkervoort, the Dutch sports car creator, has unveiled the new D8 GTO-RS. For those of you who might not remember, the D8 GTO used to have an RS version twelve years ago, when the model managed to set a record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 2004 and 2006 for production cars.

The new design has not been announced with such plans, but Donkervoort claims it will be “the ultimate D8 GTO.” Considering the Dutch engineers have used the last two years for a full redesign of the car on both technical and design level, we expect it to match their statements.

While power and acceleration figures were not disclosed, we do know that the Dutch automaker employed a Euro 6 engine sourced from Audi.

Specifically, we are talking about a 2.5-liter TFSI five-cylinder unit, which has been enhanced for “more power and driving comfort.” According to Donkervoort, it was called upon automotive supplier Bosch to provide a launch control function, as well as other improvements.

Furthermore, the improved D8 GTO-RS features a new suspension, a wider track, and a redeveloped braking system. Thanks to these changes, the Dutch automaker claims the D8 GTO-RS has improved grip on the front axle.

The interior of the D8 GTO-RS has also been enhanced, and is hand-built, just like the rest of the street-legal sports car. Donkervoort has reduced the weight of the car to ensure it is the fastest GTO ever built. Several components are now made of carbon fiber, like the transmission tunnel section, as well as interior trim like door cards.

The starting price of the new Donkervoort D8 GTO-RS is of €151,173 without taxes. Only 40 examples of this model will be built, and the Dutch specialist brand has announced the first 21 units have been spoken for in the pre-sale period thanks to the Donkervoort Ambassadors, a club of brand enthusiasts.
