Mille Miglia is celebrated in every way you can possibly imagine, from special-edition watches to unique versions gifted to different vehicles. As you can guess, we like the latter most, and Donkervoort does the right thing in pleasing our taste in cars.
Donkervoort had a substantial reason for unveiling the D8 GTO '100 Mille Miglia' edition: for the first time in its 37-year history, Donkervoort made an appearance at the rally running from Brescia to Rome and back.
But let's focus for a moment on the car, because that's what brought you here in the first place. Unlike the D8 GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition and its NSFW appearance, the 1000 Mille Miglia edition looks like an Italian signore.
Donkervoort officials claim "the car was built with the aim of increasing both the ease-of-use and total comfort of the car, to ensure enjoyment of driving the GTO on Europe’s most beautiful roads". All we can do is offer more info on its mechanical guts.
Power comes from a 310-horsepower Audi 2.5L R5 TFSI engine, a milder approach in Donkervoort standards. However, with only 760 kg total weight (due to a reduction from use of carbon fibre), the hot-shot will still blast from a standstill like a bullet, but with "slightly more road comfort" on the side, officials say.
The vehicle is fitted with adjustable comfort shock absorbers offering an increased driving height for street use, but the interior is a real thing of beauty. We're talking about a classically designed dashboard featuring conventional dials, with extra facilities (for telephone and navigation) integrated into the cockpit.
The bad news though is that only 25 units will be ever built, available for a starting price of €115,000 ($129,062 at current exchange rates).
