Don't Be a Dickhead: Obey, Or We'll Call You Names

Warning: contains terms which may be considered inappropriate. To those of you who found the title of this piece offensive, we say: it wasn't us! It was the Victorian government in Oz, (or Australia, by its stage name), who decided to pursue those who don't follow rules and regulations behind the wheel with the ultimate deterrent weapon: insults.

Now, we are not yet sure why the Australian authorities chose to spend AU$100,000 for a series of videos promoting road safety through foul language. Where in this world have you heard of someone bowing his head and saying "Sorry, never gonna do it again, boss!" after being insulted? If anything, this causes more anger than obedience...

Anyway, the campaign is online, insulting Australian drivers who brake the law. We can even imagine how a cop-driver faceoff, on some road in Victoria, would go sometimes in the future.

Cop: Good evening, sir. License and registration, please! (or whatever they ask for in Australia)
Driver: Can't you see I'm on the phone?
Cop: I can. That's why I stopped you. You're in violation of the dickhead act.
Driver: The what?!
Cop: Dickhead act...
Driver: Are you calling me a dickhead?
Cop: No, I...
Driver: You are...! Moron!
Cop: Sir, don't be a dickhead. Put the phone down!
Driver: Dude, stop calling me a dickhead!
Cop: Sir, according to the state dickhead law, I am required to ask you to step out of the vehicle. The fine for your crime is a spit in the face and two kicks in the a**. Please assume the position.

A far fetched scenario, you think? Think again. Only this week, Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton got arrested by traffic cops, got his Mercedes impounded and was called a "dickhead" by Victoria Roads Minister Tim Pallas...

So, from now on, those braking traffic laws in Australia will be called dickheads. What we have to ask is this: do you think the campaign will work? Will people stop using their phones, wear their seat belts, stop at red traffic lights? (comment in the box below the video)

Or will they turn the campaign into a motorists' greeting: "Wassup, dickhead? Nice ride!"
