Does the X6 Really Look Like a BMW 5 Series GT?

A lot of people have been saying lately that the BMW range is made up of cars that look exactly the same. While for someone like me that sounds like absolute craziness, a picture I saw today actually made me have second thoughts.

Writing about Bimmers all day long you get to know exactly what sets one apart from the other. You can tell by the smallest details which is which and that is generally a good thing.

I won’t deny the fact that even for me sometimes it’s hard to point out exactly what car I’m looking at from certain angles (especially if we’re talking about the interiors), but most of the time I get it right.

Therefore, I was rather puzzled to notice the absolutely incredible resemblance of this X6 with ... a BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. That’s right, a 5 Series.

Now, a lot of you will say that the two don’t have anything in common and you’d be right but take a look at the photo above and tell me you don’t see the resemblance.

The E71 X6 in that photo was drastically lowered as the owner wasn’t taking it off road anyway but when the job was done, from a distance, it looked like a completely different vehicle.

While the X model is dubbed as a Sport Activity Coupe and should resemble a coupe car, the 5 Series Gran Turismo should look different. However, as you can see, both of them share enough panels to make you wonder what's wrong with this world.

None of them do what they’re supposed to do. The 5er should be a practical proposition with ‘dynamic handling’, while the X6 should be a Coupe. When both of them aren’t doing what they should, this is what you get. Quite interesting...
