Dodge Viper Rendering Gets Legend Into EV Era, Catches a Bit of Cybertruckiness

So, the Dodge Viper is dead. Its parent company might employ a bit of necromancy and bring the model back among the living at some point, but there are no decisive plans at the moment. None that we know of, at least.

Like so many other people out there, we'd love to see a modern take on the legendary sports car that built its fame as much on its performance as its tendency to kill its driver. As bad as 2020 was, it did host a few spectacular comebacks in the automotive world, with the three that come to mind being the Ford Bronco, the GMC Hummer EV, and the Land Rover Defender. So, who's to say the Viper couldn't pull off a similar feat at some point?

Well, definitely not us. In fact, we've already talked about the possibility of a revival, and we argued there was still time to make it the right way: with a piston banger under that long hood, preferably with no fewer than ten cylinders. We still stand behind everything that's been said, but we're also here to show you the alternative.

The alternative, in case it's not clear already, would be an electric powertrain. Judging by the way things go, it won't be long before EVs become the norm and not the alternative, but for the time being, sending electrons to an electric motor is still considered a departure from the status quo.

An all-electric Viper sounds pretty counter-intuitive, particularly for a company that's still lagging well behind on the electrification front. On the other hand, talk about making an entry. It's not exactly unheard of to kick things off with a halo car, and the E Viper would be just that.

Don't listen to what Ferrari says; the performance is already there. You have the Rimac C_Two electric hypercar as proof (albeit a very expensive one), and then there are Tesla's sedans absolutely tearing it on the drag strip - at least when they don't come across a Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Yup, also an EV.

Are we saying the E-Viper is going to happen? No. Are we saying it might happen? Nothing is off the table but, most likely, no. Are we saying on the off chance it did, it would look like this rendering? Again, no. The Viper was famous for its curvy shapes, so this Tesla Cybertruck impersonation doesn't make any sense.

It would be enough of a shock giving the public an electric Viper; messing with its design as well would be adding insult to injury. We doubt the FCA is that brave - or any other company, for that matter. After all, it's not like GM introduced the Hummer EV in pink with a big flower decal on its hood.
