The Chrysler Group revealed that the SRT performance brand established in 2012 will be folded back into Dodge in the near future. This move comes as no surprise when you take into account that SRT had a hard time selling the latest generation Viper.
After cutting down production output two times in the last six months, Chrysler hopes that the sluggish sales of the SRT Viper will hopefully gain momentum once the performance model will bear the Dodge name yet again. C'mon Chrysler, you know that the brand name isn't to blame, just take $15K off your flagship model's sticker price and the results are guaranteed to be amazing.
Unfortunately, Fiat-Chrysler new five-year business plan hints that performance models such as the Chrysler 300 SRT and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will be renamed or discontinued. But the greatest news is that the updated 2015 Dodge Challenger and Charger sedan will get all-new SRT versions, which will be powered by the all-new 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8. The Hellcat-powered Challenger will reportedly churn out over 600 horsepower and will be officially unveiled this August.
The shindig continues with a more powerful facelifted Viper slated for 2015, as well as a revised Dart with improved "driving dynamics" and a couple of new engine options sometime in 2016. The cheeky Dodge Dart will also get a SRT variant, which will sport a high revving turbocharged mill under its bonnet and put its power down to the ground via an all-wheel drive system.
2016 is the year we'll also get a replacement for the aging Journey, dubbed by Dodge as the "D-CUV". A SRT version will follow in the first quarter of 2017. The same year, Dodge will usher an updated Durango as well.
Moving on to 2018, the American brand promises to launch a small B-segment sedan and hatch, as well as all-new generations of the models we love most from Dodge: the Challenger and Charger.
