Japan is a crazy scene not only when it comes to car customization but also racing. They're the ones who invented touge racing and mad tuning for supercars, but racing vans is not something we thought they'd be good at.
We've seen vans lapping the Nurburgring track in Germany, but the vans you're about to watch in the video below are not your ordinary pizza or furniture delivery vans.
Furthermore, they're US-built Dodge Ram vans, so what can be more awesome than racing American Dodge B-Series vans on circuit in Japan?
D-VAN GP is a yearly competition held at Ebisu Circuit by I-5 corporation in Youga, Tokyo Japan. These V6 and V8-powered vans have also appeared in Grand Theft Auto, which takes their awesomeness level to right about 9,000.
Things are taken very seriously, by the way, as this is still a form of motorsport. Therefore, each driver must wear a helmet, a track suit and special racing shoes and gloves. To be honest, we've never seen that many decals on a van, but hey, this is Japan, and we can't help but notice their eccentric ways of looking at racing.
Also, when you think about the fact that Dodge built the Ram van to accommodate seats for up to 15 passengers on the extended length, long wheelbase Maxivans, and now someone is abusing them in the name of adrenaline, the whole picture becomes even more crazy.
The short documentary is available below, go ahead and witness motorsport's funky side.
