The reports showed that the SRT-10 needs an acre of forest a year to absorb its carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, UK’s forests are endangered as the vehicle produces 488 grams of CO2 each kilometer, needing 322 mature oak trees to absorb the emissions in a year, telegraph.co.uk reported.
"The big problem is not the Dodge SRT-10s and Lamborghinis because there are not many of them on the road. The concern is that people are continuing to buy cars that are much too big for their real needs. With the increasing costs of motoring and the threat to the environment there has never been a more important time to choose greener cars," said ETA director Andrew Davis.
Other environmentally harmful cars named by ETA were a Volkswagen Golf (3.2 V6 250 PS R32 4MOTION) and the BMW M3, which was considered the worst large family car. The report also found the Bentley Brooklands Coupe, the Mercedes R-Class R63 AMG and the Cadillac Escalade as a threat to the environment.
The study showed the opposites of the aforementioned vehicles. The Honda Insight was named by ETA Green Car of the Year 2009, as the hybrid only emits 101 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.
Other ultra-clean vehicles included the Toyota 1Q 1.0 VVT-i, the Toyota Yaris 1.4 D-4-D 6-speed and the Vauxhall Tigra 1.3CDTi. The study analyzed each car on euro Standard emissions, noise level, fuel cost, engine capacity and urban and rural driving fuel efficiency.
