Dodge, Jeep, Ram Vehicles Recalled Due to Defective Brake Line

American manufacturer Chrysler has issued yet another recall after the massive one announced back in June due to problems discovered in the Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country, and Jeep Wrangler. This time, it appears that Mexican built brake line by TI Automotive has a defective flare that can affect stopping distance.

The vehicle affected by the latest recall notice refers to the 2010 Dodge Nitro, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Liberty and Ram 1500 models.

In total, 26,573 2010 Dodge Nitro, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Liberty and Ram 1500 vehicles are affected by the recall, distributed as follows: 20,637 United States; 3,439 Canada; 538 Mexico; and 1,959 in international markets.

“Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2010 left hand drive Jeep Liberty, Dodge Nitro and Ram 1500 truck; right and left hand drive
Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles may have been built with an improperly formed master cylinder to hydraulic control unit (HCU) brake tube assembly end flare,” the safety notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website says.

“This could lead to loss of brake fluid and reduced braking performance increasing the risk of a crash,” the posting further reads.

The manufacturer, however, says it is not aware at this point of any complaints, accidents, injuries or property damage related to this defect and that the problem was discovered internally through “improved quality control processes.”

As expected, authorized dealers will provide the remedy to this problem free of charge, as required by the law. Chrysler says it will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all potentially affected vehicles to inspect and replace the brake tubes. The recall campaign will begin this August.

Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline At 1-888-327-4236.
