Ladies and gentlemen drag racers, we have to start by letting you know that the opponents of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is a 2002 Ford Mustang GT that comes in stock form. Of course, you might want to know why anybody would battle the Mopar king in an aging factory-state 'Stang. Well, the answer is simple - for the fun of it.
Fortunately, the two muscle cars got together at the drag strip, thus keeping things on the safe side and making use of the prepped surface.
So, what do the numbers tell us?
Well, the Demon can deliver high-9s quarter-mile passes, but only when the atmospheric conditions allow it and the driver is on top of his game. Otherwise, the uber-Challenger is a 10s car.
As for the 2002 Mustang GT, this is the kind of machine that will deliver 12-second passes. And, at least in the case of the example we have here, it seems none of the horses have escaped from under the stable that is the engine compartment.
Then again, if we compare the specs of the two V8 wielders, the differences are staggering. Due to the era from which the Blue Oval machine comes, its 4.6-liter heart only makes 260 horsepower, so it's hilarious to see it battling the 840-pony Demon.
Speaking of which, the driver of the Demon agreed to give the Ford a head start. However, once the man ended up at the starting line, things went south, albeit with the mishap turning out to be in favor of the competition.
