It seems that the Dodge Dart is set to receive yet another piece of Italian engineering, with the vehicle set to be fitted with Fiat Powertrain’s new six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Constantinos Vafidis, the main in charge of the group’s transmissions department, told autocar that the Dart is scheduled to get the aforementioned tech goodie.
When matted to Fiat’s 1.4-liter MultiAir powerplant, this delivers over 40 US mpg (5.9 liters per 100 km) and this means so much more than just an efficient car, as the combination allowed Fiat to purchase extra Chrysler stakes recently.
The move was permitted after the Italian kept their promise to use the US to build a compact car that would return over 40 miles per gallon. The gearbox has already made its debut on the Alfa Romeo Mito and Giulietta and will eventually be offered on up to 80 percent of Fiat engines.
