Dodge Charger SRT8 Races Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, Big Muscle Wins

Both the Dodge Charger SRT8 and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 have been around long enough to allow the aftermarket side of the industry to offer tons and tons of mods. So, coming across pumped-up incarnations of these muscle cars seems only natural these days. In fact, we are now here to discuss a race between two such toys.

In the Plum Crazy corner, we have the Charger SRT8, a machine that's over a decade old, with this 2012 model, animated by a 6.4-liter HEMI, using a five-speed automatic.

As for the Grabber Lime corner, this is occupied by the non-R incarnation of the GT350, an S550 special that landed for the 2015 model year, wielding a flat-plane crankshaft - for the record, we're looking at a 2020 toy here, with this probably being the final model year for the vehicle - the GT350 is expected to be replaced by the Mach 1 for 2021.

Now, just like the intro states, both slabs of America come in massaged form and we're not just talking about their engines.

As such, the Blue Oval toy has seen it 5.2-liter N/A V8 being gifted with a JLT cold air intake, an E85 setup and a tune, with the motor now delivering over 500 hp at the wheels (this means its crank hp number sits at wheel over 550 ponies). Following a diet involving a single-seat configuration and a battery replacement, the 'Stang now tips the scales at 3,660 lbs (1,660 kg).

The Mopar sedan has also lost quite a bit of weight, since it currently sits at over 3,700 lbs (1,700) kg. Its V8 allows the driver to play with 450 hp at the wheels (about 530 hp at the crankshaft). And the list of mods includes a cold air intake, long-tube headers, a custom exhaust, rear drag radials with skinny front wheels/tires, an aluminum driveshaft and a 3.91 final drive.

The two got together for a wild session of racing and were joined by a 2020 Toyota Supra. The Japanese sportscar had also been sent to the gym, packing a Stage 2 tune and a downpipe, which means its BMW-sourced 3.0-liter straight-six is now good for over 450 hp at the rear wheels (keep in mind the Mk V Supra only comes with an eight-speed auto, while it tips the scales at 3,400 lbs or 1,540 kg).

Now, you can skip to the 3:02 point of the clip below for the racing action, but please remember to stay off the streets and hit the drag strip when it's time for racing.
