Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Unleashed

392-cubic inch HEMI, the roar of 470 horsepower pounding in the eight cylinders and the looks of the Challenger SRT8: how does that sound for a weekend ride?

First of all, it sounds possible, as the Americans from Dodge announced they've packed all of the above in a very neat SRT8 392, street legal and all. Compared to the previous 6.1l V8, this one spits out an extra 90 lb.-ft. of torque as well, so all those horses will be put to good use.

Having transformed what's under the hood, Dodge was forced to give the car more than its share of modifications to handle the increase in power and, why not, appeal. The SRT8 392 comes with highly damped shocks, recalibrated suspension geometry and an improved fully hydraulic steering system.

The 2011 Challenger SRT8 will enter production soon, but not before Dodge releases 1,492 Inaugural Edition models of the SRT8 392, each with an unique package, that includes 20-inch SRT-exclusive wheels, unique “392 HEMI” badges on both fenders or Smooth Pearl White leather-trimmed seats and dual blue stripes with blue stitching.

“Building on its original mantra of a rear-drive coupe that delivers balance between form and function, the Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 brings world-class ride and handling along with high-performance braking and the latest technology that delivers improved fuel efficiency,” Dodge says in a statement about its new muscle.

Chrysler says the models, which will be manufactured in Canada, will reach the US in the fourth quarter of 2010. There is no information yet regarding the price of a Challenger SRT8 392.
