Dodge Challenger Hellcat vs. Nitrous Challenger SRT8 392, the Mopar Drag Race

As you've figured out, the naturally aspirated Challenger SRT can't stay in all motor form when duking it out with the Hellcat. In this case, the power adder of choice is nitrous.

Unfortunately, the drivers of the two Challengers decided to settle the score on the street instead of the drag strip, with their battle(s) once again coming to show that street racing is an effervescent scene these days.

The muscle machines use a standing start and the driver of the Hellcat, which comes in 8-speed automatic trim, seems to struggle with the mandatory burnout.

While we don't want to spoil the fun by telling you which of these two slabs of America is faster, we do have to warn you not to use this particular nitrous-fed 392 as a benchmark in the future. As with most tuned cars out there, the particular setup, which seems to be no greater than a 125 shot of nitrous, can't be used for generalizations.

We'll take the time to remind you that, while the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi motivating the Hellcat delivers 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of twist, the standard incarnation of the 6.4-liter Hemi in the 392 churns out 470 hp and just as many lb-ft of torque.

As we mentioned in the intro, the Mopar family brawl aroma of this battle means we have plenty of aspects to enjoy. For one thing, the sheer sight of these two performance behemoths trying to one-up each other is a delight.

Then there's the soundtrack. The intoxicating supercharger whine of the Hellcat and the way in which the nitrous plays with the voice of the 392 mix in a manner that can only be considered thrilling.
