Dodge Challenger Destroyed on Assembly Line

At Brampton, Ontario plant, a Dodge Challenger burst into flames on the assembly line and was destroyed completely.

The source of the fire is believed to be a heat lamp that was standing too close to the assembly line and that triggered the whole thing. The car was nearly finished when the incident happen and, once it did, there was nothing that the employees could do to stop the disaster.

Some rumors suggest that the wrecked car could have been a limited edition Challenger SRT8 392 model. There are a series of speculations regarding the real cause of the incident and some go as far as saying that this was a plan to reduce the total number of the limited edition Dodge Challenger.

The car should be built in 1,492 units with the starting price of $24,670 (€17,100) and distributed in markets worldwide. The SRT8 392 has a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine that manages to produce 470 horsepower and a staggering torque of 470 lb.-ft. (637 Nm). There are two gearboxes available to chose from, namely the standard five-speed automatic transmission with Auto Stick or the Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual gearbox.

The maximum speed is 175 mph (282 km/h), while the car can easily reach 0-62 mph (0-100km/h) around 4.5 seconds. The Challenger is known to be a drag strip race car and it does show its drag racing capabilities by managing to cover a quarter mile around 12.5 seconds.

The SRT8 392 comes with 20-inch wheels, Mopar quad exhaust tips, aero parts and a two-tone leather interior. Colour choices may vary between Deep Water Blue with Stone White stripes or Bright White Clear Coat with Viper Blue stripes.
