Dodge Caliber and Nitro Production Ends

We knew this moment was soon coming ever since we heard about the new Dodge Dart, a new compact model that’s supposed to do 40 mpg. This will soon be put into production, bringing Fiat the last 5% of Chrysler, but it also spell the end for a couple of old what were supposed to be attractive compacts for the US market.

According to Automotive News, the last examples of both the Caliber and Nitro have rolled off the Belvidere, Illinois and Toledo North assembly plants’ lines this month. Both weren’t exactly the most successful models, partly because of their lack of driving appeal, and partly because when they were introduced, American consumers weren’t used to the format.

Last month, only 1,202 Calibers were sold, and a replacement is coming next week in the form of the 2013 Dart, a sedan based on the European Alfa Rome Giulietta platform.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
