Doctors Are Optimistic of Massa's Condition

Ferrari's Felipe Massa is doing OK, as confirmed by both the medical staff at the AEK Hospital in central Budapest and Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone. The Brazilian underwent a CT scan earlier this morning - prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix - and his situation seems to be as initially predicted by the doctors.

"It (the CT scan) brought the result we had expected concerning an injury of this type," said Peter Gaszo, the medical director of the aforementioned hospital.

As reported by the Hungarian media and Ferrari PR representatives during the course of yesterday evening, Massa's condition was life-threatening, but stable. Yesterday afternoon, the Ferrari-an underwent an emergency surgery after it was found that he had sustained skull damage and brain contusion following his crash on Saturday.

According to Gaszo, Massa is expected to finally wake up from the coma on Tuesday. The same report showed that the Brazilian was actually awake for a short period of time this morning, when responding to his father, brother and wife. He was also visited by 78-year old Ecclestone, who's optimistic of Massa's chances of a recovery.

"I think he's okay. Everybody seemed quite happy with him this morning. The hospital is happy, which is more important," said Ecclestone.

Ferrari is yet to issue a statement on whether Massa will be able to race again this year or not. However, given the complications of Saturday's incident, the chances of him making the F60 cockpit this year are slim to say the least.
