Doctor Doesn't Rule Out Schumacher's Return in 2009

Michael Schumacher's return to Formula One is not out of the picture, as suggested by both the 40-year old driver and his personal doctor Johannes Peil. Although they have both insisted the injuries sustained by Schu after his motorcycle crash in February are very serious (heavily affecting his neck), none has ruled out the possibility of the German getting better and eventually becoming physically fit for racing.

Please understand that I don't want to say anything more,” said Schumacher during his press conference yesterday. However, after the official meeting with the media ended, the 7-time world champion stressed the fact that he can't drive a Formula One car right now, not forever.

If I understood Dr Peil correctly, there are no purely medical reasons why I could not drive formula one races any more. But it is not currently a topic with which I am occupied,” revealed Schu, keeping the suspense over his potential F1 return still alive.

The possibility of him being able to race in formula one again cannot be ruled out,” were the words coming from Peil that started the whole thing. While insisting Schuey's crash earlier this year was arguably the worst in his entire motor racing career, at no time Peil suggested the injuries are not treatable or will affect the German's medical condition for the long run.

Although paying a great deal of attention to Peil's conclusions, the 7-time world champion insisted the gravity of his injury will not keep him away from doing the exact same adrenaline-pumping things as before.

I love riding bikes, jumping out of aeroplanes, that's the sort of person I am. I love Formula One,” added the German driver.
