The second-largest U.S. automaker revealed the reinvented Bronco this past July as an integral part of the company’s all-new outdoor “Bronco Brand,” a new marque that is said to be capable of delivering “Built Wild” 4x4 adventure vehicles. Ford also emphasized that it wasn’t just introducing the 2-Door Bronco or the first-ever 4-Door Bronco and Bronco Sport, but it was creating an entire ecosystem around them.
Said lifestyle would be supported by many things, from the new Off-Roadeo outdoor adventure playgrounds to the hundreds of officially approved accessories.
Speaking of the latter, more than 200 factory-baked options are being prepared for the 2-Door and 4-Door Broncos – a terrific way to promote both available personalization choices and challenge direct rivals, such as the Mopar-based Jeep Wrangler community.
Naturally, the idea of eventually having a Build & Price online configurator tool that’s brimming with accessories for the Bronco isn’t exactly a massive surprise, precisely because the Blue Oval wants to challenge the Wrangler’s status as one of the most heavily customized off-roaders on Earth.
Some of these accessories have already been added to the virtual tool but seeing them rendered in the CGI environment is never the same as capturing their looks in the wild.
Luckily, we don’t have to wait until later this summer when first deliveries are finally supposed to start in order to see one of these accessories, thanks to a recent 4-Door 2021 Bronco prototype spotting courtesy of Ford Authority.
The 4-Door Bronco prototype with a regular soft top instead of the odd “fastback” one apparently has the Yakima Hitch-Mounted Four-Bike Carrier, which is already available in the configurator for $569.
Of note, it’s offered from the Big Bend trim in either 2-Door or 4-Door configuration, and it also needs the Towing Capability feature, which includes a 2-inch (51-mm) receiver for a max trailer tow rating of 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg).
The rack is a swing-away, mast-style carrier with Yakima’s trademarked ZipStrips and fully padded arms, and tool-free installation via the locking SpedKnob. By the way, the spotted prototype shots are great at revealing how far the bike carrier sticks out the back of the already long 4-Door Bronco, as it also needs to clear the door-mounted spare tire.
