DIY Engine Offer for 'Vette Lovers

For those of you Corvette freaks out there who believe Chevrolet is not doing a good enough job at building its vehicles, GM prepared a do-it-yourself (DIY) engine offer. The offer is available for buyers of a 2011 Corvette Z06 or ZR1 and comes in the form of an opportunity.

Of course, GM will not ship a kit to your home and let you build an engine, assemble it wrong, die and then have your family sue the carmaker. Instead, if you choose to pay an extra $5,800 when ordering your car, GM will give you the opportunity to travel to its Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan and hand build your LS7 or LS9 engine, depending on the car you choose. Under the careful supervision of trained personnel, of course.

According to PistonHeads, the future owner of a 'Vette will also have the chance to attend a driving school in Arizona or Nevada. For those more weak of heart, who can't stand taking part in the actual build, Chevrolet offers the possibility of watching the vehicles being built at the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Or, for the less courageous of them, taking delivery of the brand new 'Vette at the National Corvette Museum might just do the trick.

Back in March, GM announced the latest release in the 'Vette line-up, the Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition, a blend of the vehicle's racing pedigree with its on-the-road abilities. The car will feature Brembo carbon ceramic brakes with dark gray metallic calipers, first launched on the ZR1. It will be available in late summer.
