Disabled Old Man Beats Hell’s Angel, Gets Jailed

Ever had a feeling that sometimes justice is a bit... ironic (to say the least)? If not, you might get such a feeling after reading the story about 66-year-old Keith Degroot, a Hell's Angel biker and a... walking stick.

The 66 pensioner, who needs a walking stick to move, got into it with 56 year old Stephen Hall, a Hell's Angel member in April last year. The incident took place in a pub and was ignited by the biker knocking off the old man's glasses and calling him at the same time a “f**king Jew.”

The old man was so upset that he didn't think much about it, raised his walking stick and hit the Hell's Angel right on the head. Apparently, the physical problem which prevented Degroot from walking properly has no effects on the power in his hands.

The biker was left unconscious by the blow, spending five days in a hospital after the incident, with serious head and-facial injuries.

The old man didn't get away with it however, as he has been sentenced to spend 18 months in prison by the Sheffield Crown Court last week. During the trial, Degroot said he had hit the biker because he was intimidated.

“The complainant is 6ft 3in, has a shaved head, is of a heavy, muscular, build and in his fifties," lawyer Derek Duffy said during the trial, according to the Daily Mail. “Mr Degroot can neither be described as large or muscular.”

Recorder Jane Rowley however decided to strip the glory right off the 66-year old's shoulders.

“I accept that you did not intend serious harm but you were reckless as to whether harm was caused when you struck him a blow of some force,”
she said. “Your offence is so serious that neither a fine nor community punishment can be imposed.”
