Hyundai Motors America CEO John Krafcik has confirmed to CarAndDriver that they will supply six-speed transmissions to Chrysler for use in the brand new Dodge Dart, which is amazing considering they should be 40 mpg rivals.
However, the 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter normally aspirated engines used by the Dart are identical in displacement to what the Sonata has under its hood, so it’s not totally surprising. These engines are re-engineered versions of the ones in the Caliber, which were developed under the GEMA joint venture with Mitsubishi and Hyundai, which was discontinued in 2009.

Chrysler is reportedly having problems with final calibration of the six-speed automatic. However, they have in the the past confirmed a new 9-speed automatic gearbox coming to the Dart in 2013. This is built by the ZF Group, and should be a top pick when it comes to economy.
