Ram’s brand new 1500 EcoDiesel pickup truck will arrive with an estimated fuel economy of 27 miles per gallon combined, Ram Truck brand president and CEO Reid Bigland told the media at the Texas State Fair.
Official numbers are still a long way off, but Bigland’s announcement adds to Ram’s initial claims that the Diesel-powered 1500 will return at least 25 miles per gallon on the highway. However, 27 mpg combine would translate into 30+ mpg on the highway - quite impressive when compared to the V6 gasoline’s highway rating of 25 mpg - so we’re going to wait for the EPA to provide some figures before jumping in with both feet.
As a reminder, the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is powered by a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 that delivers 240 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque and can be had as an option for an extra $2,850. The diesel 2014 model is expected to tow up to of 9,200 pounds.
