Jumping out of planes – it’s all the rage right now with aging celebrities. Ripping a page right out of Will Smith’s book, Sean Combs aka Diddy also celebrated turning 49 by jumping out of an aircraft.
However, unlike Will, he didn’t bungee-jump and he didn’t do it over the Grand Canyon, which is not to say his stunt was less cooler. Diddy did tandem skydiving and he actually landed in the backyard at the Playboy Mansion. How’s that for being in a festive mood?
The former rapper turned successful businessman documented his entire adventure on his Instagram. He started off by telling fans he had actually been dreaming of doing this for some time: the idea first came to him when he was visiting Dubai, but for reasons he doesn’t disclose, it didn’t happen then.
So he decided to use his 49th birthday as the best “excuse” to do it. He also mentioned that he would “attempt to land, two houses away, in the backyard of the Playboy Mansion,” but he didn’t seem very sure he would be able to do it.
His fears proved unfounded. He landed at the Mansion, where he was greeted by all his family, who had been cheering him on all along.
And, if you’re thinking Diddy is a shameless Will Smith copycat, know that he’s got you beat on that. “I wanted to do this before I saw Will Smith jump out a plane,” he says. “But he definitely gave me some inspiration after seeing him jump out, but mine was already scheduled. So, Will, I didn't want you to think I'm biting.”
So there you have it. In the same posts, the former rapper urges his followers to go out and vote in this midterm elections, so that’s the upside for those of you who might think his stunt would have been more spectacular had he tried the jump on his own.
