Did You Know Porsche and M101 Designed an Entire Apartment Complex?

Ok, so this is getting a little out of hand. Porsche genetics seem to reach much further than just the cars we’re used to. So far in that even whole apartment complexes are being built as you read this.

We are not joking. From shoes, to sound systems, and yachts, the Porsche family is extensive. Porsche Month brings with it he newest family member is an entire apartment complex with this questionable Ferris wheel atop the 52nd floor.

It’s called the Skywheel and it’s being built by M101 out of Kuala Lumpur. M101 is a development company focused on building and investing in sustainable projects throughout the region. And Porsche is well, Porsche. So we’re bound to see some amazing stuff.

For starters let's get something out of the way, then we’ll talk about the rest of this Studio F.A. Porsche design. Aside from the fact that we are looking at an apartment structure with Porsche branding and design, there is a giant Ferris wheel on top of the structure. And it’s supposed to look like one of the watches created by Porsche Design.

Really? A watch? We hope they don’t leave it that way. Or if they do, we hope the watch face is functional, and doesn’t just look like one giant sticker. Now, the reason we say “we hope” is because this project has been underway since 2016, with no completion date in sight, so it’s coming, that’s for sure. This joyride offers a view of Lumpur 722 feet (220m) off the ground. To help market everything a bit further, a mall will occupy floors 48 to 52.

Now what makes this a Porsche design, aside from the gaudy watch face? Let’s find out, shall we? To start the façade incorporates elements such as the Porsche Red meridians, black glass windows and fronts, and a titanium base structure. The play of these three materials define the exterior.

But it will be a place you live in, so the interior is really what we want to see. Housing comes in four options. Each one ranging in style, dimensions, and some minor design changes in terms of base materials. No matter which of these four potential layouts you would choose, you have a private elevator and lobby. Three of the four layouts have the standard needs of a home, a bathroom, bedroom, living room, study, and kitchen, but the fourth option, The Explorer, is equipped with two bathrooms and two bedrooms.

Construction includes the use of four base materials to set the Porsche mood. The main material used in construction is marble. It can be seen in the flooring of every layout and offers an even gray tone to each apartment, To help offset the shine marble gives off, wood had been adopted as one of necessary materials for a balanced design. The use of automotive grade glass helps to create neat intimate spaces throughout the space.

The two remaining materials, leathers and metals, are used in furniture and lighting design. Leather has always been a part of Porsche history, so it is no exception here. With the use of LED lighting, the metal accents throughout the space, give us a something something to catch our eye as you glide through your Porsche apartment.

We aren't really sure how much of what we’ve been shown, will come into fruition, in terms of materials used and design, but it is happening, and Porsche is in the lead.
