Did Fiat Throw a Bunch of 500s in the Sea? Yes.

Fiat’s latest commercial showing, 500s driving themselves into the sea to head for US shores, in a similar manner to the image we have of 19th and 20th century Italian immigrants jumping into the sea, ‘squeezing through’ the Gibraltar Strait and then heading for the US (not an accurate image, though).

Anyway, if you were wondering whether or not the cars you saw plunging into the sea were real, or not, well, according to a set of pictures by Paul Panek, it is plain to see that, in fact, real cars were used - the ad is all the better for it, we say.

Apparently, a total of six vehicles was used, with the yellow one being dropped from the highest point (21 meters / 70 ft) above the water’s surface. The rather amusing ad was filmed over a period of 12 days, on the Italian coast, as well as New York, in the US.
