Di Resta Says Vettel and Hamilton Had Easier Access to F1

Now that he has been confirmed as driver for the Force India team in the 2011 F1 season, Paul di Resta took a minute to talk about some other big names in the paddock, some of which managed to achieve impressive performances.

Di Resta says both Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton had easier access to Formula 1, emphasizing that the fact that he managed to stay in the championship is actually a big achievement in his very own case.

"I wouldn't say it's been frustrating, (but) they've had it easier than me," he said during the Force India press conference when he was introduced as the new driver of the team. Scot di Resta, who is 24, is the new DTM champion while Lewis Hamilton's father Anthony is his new managed in Formula 1.

"They (Vettel and Hamilton) had different backing and that got them there a bit quicker," he added. "Looking at it they were luckier than I am, but I've got there."

But this doesn't mean at all that di Resta won't try to beat the two champions, he said, emphasizing that he expects an interesting battle in the new season that will debut in Bahrain.

"I don't want to sound big-headed, but I wasn't racing them when they won their championships. We've had some great battles in the past. Hopefully I'll get a repeat of that in the future. I would hope to be on the same pace as him or quicker than him from the start."
