Di Resta Not Denying Mercedes Interest

Paul di Resta's promising start of the season in 2011 – his first F1 campaign – has caught the eye of Mercedes GP's senior management. After out-qualifying his more experienced teammate Adrian Sutil in all 3 races this year, also members of the media, including British legendary commentator Murray Walker, tipped the 25-year old Scot to a move to Mercedes in the near future.

Di Resta has been part of Mercedes' motorsport programme for the majority of his racing career and last year won the DTM title for the Stuttgart-based manufacturer following a 3-year drought. And after impressing the guys at Force India in his first year as an F1 Friday driver, he was offered a full-time race seat alongside Sutil at the Silverstone based team.

Last week, the rumors about his potential switch to Mercedes intensified after Michael Schumacher told the media that 2012 will definitely be his last season in Formula 1. That news came a few days after Merc's motorsport boss Norbert Haug told the media that he's impressed with what di Resta has shown in his F1 debut.

It is great that people are talking but at the same time I have got to keep progressing,” said di Resta in a recent interview with the Telegraph, referring to the rumors that already name him Schu's replacement at the Brackley team.

His manager, none other than the father of 2008 F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, Anthony, did not confirm any discussions with the Mercedes officials just yet, but admitted that the prospect of getting his client a contract with the German carmaker's works team is viable.

I would like to think there is an interest. We've not spoken to anyone but for sure Paul is a Mercedes protege and Norbert has said some very complimentary things about him,” said Hamilton.
