Di Montezemolo’s 599 GTB Sold for 260,000 Euros

Ferrari’s first online auction came to a successful end, as Luca di Montezemolo’s own 599 GTB was sold for 260,000 euros, money that will go the support of young researchers involved in projects dedicated to technological innovation.

However, as much as we wanted to find out who the winning bidder was, he wished to remain anonymous.

This online auction came from Ferrari’s will to stay in touch with clients and fans through the Internet, a fast growing form of communication.

The Italian automaker is investing around 18 percent of its turnover every year in the development and research of new models. Ferrari also offers several scholarships for researchers at Universities all over the world in the areas of the emission and weight reduction and men-machine interfaces.

Di Montezemolo’s car was a 2006 model and had a low 5,776 km mileage at the moment of the auction. The engine used on the 599 GTB is a Tipo F133F 6.0 liter unit that puts out 620 hp, the most powerful used in a Ferrari road car. Top speed is rated at 330 km/h (205 mph) and the 0 to 60 mph acceleration is said to be 3.7 seconds.

Whether the buyer placed his bid to support Ferrari’s cause or to get his hands on di Montezemolo’s private car we will never know. However, the car was offered with some features worth of a Ferrari CEO:
  • Red Rosso Monza, Carbon – Ceramic brake system with Aluminium calipers
  • 20" monolithic wheel rims
  • Run Flat Bridgestone tires
  • Charcoal leather interior trim, including head liner, rear bench and steering wheel, with dark gray carpeting and stitching.
  • Carbon-fibre details in the driver area and in its lower sections (door panels).
  • Steering-wheel with carbon elements and 5 LEDs to display the engine rpm
  • Cascade Sat-Nav and I-Pod
