Development Chief of BMW M Denies M3 Touring Version

Not too long ago, one magazine in Slovenia claimed that BMW is planning on building a Touring version of the M3. That article was quickly dismissed by yours truly as absolute baloney and here we are today, confirming my suspicion.
Mr. Carsten Pries, the Development Chief of BMW M was the one that came out and spoke to Dutch publication, Autovisie, saying that those are just false rumors.

Just as I mentioned in my frantic editorial, the demand for such a model is what is keeping BMW from actually building it. Sure, it might seem like an off choice considering that the Bavarians are making minivans at the moment but the truth of the matter is, not even they are bold enough to invest into an M3 Touring model unless they are absolutely sure it would sell.

One could argue that AMG and Audi are offering such alternatives. But if the M division simply says that it’s not worth the trouble then we believe it.

To top everything off, the BMW official said that the demand would be good enough in Central Europe but outside the EU the people that could actually buy one are just too few to matter.

That seems to contradict every opinion out there. Just head to one or another forum in the US and you’ll find plenty of enthusiasts ready to throw their money at the Bavarians for such a model. At the end of the day though, the forums we usually visit represent just a fraction of the entire market no matter how hard to believe that sounds.
