After pulling the wraps off of the new SP:01 sport EV for the press earlier this month, Detroit Electric showcased their latest creation at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show for the public.
Customer orders for the limited edition EV sportscar were already confirmed by the automaker, who claims that is the world’s fastest pure-electric production car.

“The SP:01 will be exclusive, luxurious and technologically advanced,” said Albert Lam, Detroit Electric’s Chairman and Group CEO.  “It is a milestone in the history of the Detroit Electric brand, but also a significant development for the international EV sector.  The car will allow us to demonstrate to the world our ability to build an exciting and innovative product, one that displays outstanding performance coupled with strong green credentials, and which delivers an exhilarating driving experience.”

The SP:01 is powered by an air-cooled electric motor generating 150 kW (201 bhp) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque. Electricity will be drained from two 37 kWh lithium-polymer batteries that will enable a range of almost 307 km (190 miles) between charges, that will take 4.3 hours by the way.

Based on the Lotus Elise platform, the SP:01 has a bespoke bodywork, made entirely of carbon-fiber, featuring angular lines and muscular stance that gives it a bold and imposing look. Other features include SAMI infotainment (Smartphone Application Managed Infotainment System), leather and carbon-fiber trimmed interior, Regenerative Braking Technology and a bi-directional charge and discharge system that will allow it to power your home if needed.
