Geely Automobile Group and newly resurected Detroit Electric have announced that the two companies have entered into strategic partnership to co-develop all-electric vehicles for the Chinese market.
The first vehicles resulted from this agreement are expected to go on sale starting 2014 under Geely’s Emgrand brand. In fact, both companies have selected Geely’s best-selling Emgrand EC7 car as a base model for their future EV.
The new all-electric vehicle is said to offer both medium range and long range option, rated from 165 km through 258 km per charge, class-leading acceleration, and a top speed of over 200 km/h. “Exceptional levels of energy efficiency” are also expected to come thanks to Detroit Electric’s innovative twin-speed high-torque gearbox.
"This is a very significant step in the development of the Detroit Electric business and is testimony to our innovative technology and engineering capabilities," said Albert Lam, Chairman and Group CEO of Detroit Electric.
"Our partnership with a leading electric vehicle technology provider such as Detroit Electric will enable us to enhance and accelerate our own expertise and knowledge in this area. The EC7-EV will enable us to provide a wider vehicle choice to ourcustomers and it also reiterates our commitment to providing alternate energy vehicles to the market in China,” added Mr. Feng, President of Emgrand.
