Last week, after reading through BMW’s press release regarding their presence at the Frankfurt Motor Show we discovered that the Germans will be bringing a mysterious new model to the event, dubbed as the M6 Competition Edition.
While the M6 Competition Package has been on offer for quite some time now, it’s nothing special. Anyone can get one and that makes it attainable as long as you have the money. This version, though, is aiming at those looking for a really bespoke model.
BMW only said that it will ‘underline its status as a yet more individual version of the high-performance coupe’ but other than that, nothing was known back then. Well, things changed and thanks to an early leak, we now have a better idea of what is coming.
First of all, you should know that only 120 units will be made and that means there will be some serious competition out there (pun intended) to get your hands on one. Prices will be set at $157,000, no matter of the combination you go for.
Yes, you will be allowed to configure your car but that will be limited to choosing your preferred color (Alpine White or Austin Yellow) and the M Performance parts that will be fitted to it. Inside, you’ll be treated with BMW Individual Black leather Merino with contrast stitching and carbon fiber trims.
Up front, the chromed grilles will turn black while ‘M6 Competition’ gills will show up on the front fenders. Other standard features include the Executive Package (yes, including Bang & Olufsen), the M Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Driver’s Assistance Package, M Performance exhaust and head-up display amongst others.
Considering that the Competition Package comes as standard, you’ll be benefitting from the 4.4-liter twin turbo V8s full might which translates into 600 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Yes, we’re interested in seeing how this beauty will fare on the street and on the track.
