Desperate GT 86 Driver Saws Off His Seat as Nurburgring Won't Allow Full Buckets

As any holy destination, the Nurburgring requires steering wheel pilgrims to make certain sacrifices, but we may have come across a driver that took things to a whole new level in his quest to lap the Nordschleife.

The man was willing to enter the infamous Touristenfahrten (tourist days) events, where he could stretch the mechanical legs of his heavily modded Toyota GT86.

We're dealing with a Toyobaru that has been taken down the street-legal racecar route. You know, the kind of transformation that sees the rear-wheel-drive machine being gifted with goodies such as a rollcage and FIA-approved full bucket seats - the GT86 also has a bit of a psychedelic wrap, but we're not really sure that helps with the lap times.

Well, it seems this driver, who comes from Poland, hasn't checked the Green Hell rulebook before reaching the track. Due to his full bucket seats, he wasn't allowed to set wheel on the circuit. So the guy got his hands on some sawing tools and "customized" the hell out of his Takata bucket seat.

The video at the bottom of the page, which comes from comrade Boosted Boris, shows the seat being... downgraded to 'Ring spec.

Here's the specific Nurburgring rule the driver should've paid attention to: "Trucks and vehicles with the following specifications and/or systems: full bucket seats (driver and passenger), upgraded or not standard removable steering wheels, HANS (head and neck support) and unpadded cages and other components that can endanger the driver or road safety shall not be allowed to drive on the race track."

During the tourist days, the 'Ring is treated as a public road, which means you can't just focus on how to get past the guy in front of you. And while "full" bucket seats may be safer thanks to their wrap-around neck area protection, the stand in the way of side visibility.

Oh well, at least we expect him to have finally gained access to all those corners waiting to take a stab at his Toyota sportscar.
