In late June we reported on the Design for Sic t-shirt design competition, aimed at finding the design fo the 2015 version of the official t-shirt the Marco Simoncelli Foundation will use next year. The rules were quite simple, as the entrants had to create a t-shirt and then share it with the community, and earn votes. The three most popular designs would be the finalist, with the grand winner being judged and chosen by Marco’s father and Sic’s fiancée Kate Fretti.
The foundation was created by Marco’s father Paolo after Sic got killed in the Malaysian GP in 2011 and runs charity programs for the disabled. The competition was aimed at bringing together Sic’s fans and supporters in an effort to raise funds, so the prizes are rather emotional. However, the winner will receive a paddock pass for the San Marino GP at Misano, and for the 14 September race, besides having his or her on the official foundation t-shirt.
More than 200 drawings have been submitted and over 11,000 votes have been cast, with the Facebook exposure reaching in excess of 19,000 individuals, with 183,000 page views, proving that the competition was a massive success, almost 3 years after the untimely departure of Sic.
The voting process is now over, and August 30 will see the grand winner announced by Paolo and Kate. However, official sources mention that all the designs will be entered in a new drawing which will choose the design for the baby fan t-shirt the Marco Simoncelli foundation will print out this year.
