Derringer Plans to Go Electric with Crowdfunding

Derringer needs rather little introduction, if any at all: a reference name in the world of motorized bicycles and mopeds, famous for their 1920's boardtracker inspired designs. Now Derringer is trying to take a new step and add electric mobility to their machines.

Based on the Cruiser model, the new Derringer electric two-wheeler comes in three flavors: Heritage 37V, Signature 52V and Bespoke 63V. The power of these pedelecs ranges between 750W and 2,800W, all limited within the standing regulations, but with the owner able to unleash the power upon desire.

True boardtracker design brings springer forks, lowered handlebars and spring-loaded leather seats, in a nifty combination with modern technology cleverly disguised. The battery packs are located underneath the spine tube and behind the rear downtube, while the motor is enclosed in the rear hub.

With ranges varying from 32 km (20 miles) to 64 km (40 miles) upon the battery packs, the top speed also ranges between 35 km/h and 61 km/h (21.7-38 mph). Base price is $3,500 (€2,570), with the top-spec Derringer at $6,500 (€4,775).
